What is a Folk Guitar?

Also known as the country or western guitar, is one of the most widely played instruments in the world. The body is generally made of wood, though fiber glass and plastic are sometimes used, especially for acoustic-electric varieties. Folk guitars have a brighter, louder sound from their relative, the nylon string classical guitar. Standard tuning for folk guitars is E-A-D-G-B-E starting from the lowest string, though many musicians play in open tunings as well. Major manufacturers of folk guitars include Martin, Yamaha, Taylor, Washburn and Gibson.

What is an Acoustic Electric Guitar?

Is an acoustic guitar fitted with pickups, a microphone or transducers. In acoustic-electric guitars, the transducers and microphones are always used because conventional pickups are not capable of picking up vibrations of non-magnetic materials. The design is distinct from a semi-acoustic guitar, which is an electric guitar but with the addition of sound chambers within the guitar body. Usually, acoustic-electric guitars are fitted with piezoelectric pickups, and hence require a preamplifier incorporated into the guitar body to amplify the signal before it travels to the main guitar amplifier. These preamps may also come with tone controls of varying types, but usually equalizers with up to six frequency bands are used. They are also referred to as a “plug-in acoustic guitar”, due to their ability to simply “plug in” to a speaker system without the need for microphones.

Whats is Flamenco guitar?

By the mid 20th century the Flamenco guitar was well defined. Cypress back and sides are used for their brighter sound and the way in which each note had an abrupt rise and decay.

The sustain of rosewood only muddles the sound of the fast picado runs. Wooden tuning pegs were used for economy and also to lightened the head, however modern metal machine heads are becoming the standard.A low action is used, even if it means some buzzing of the strings, to facilitate speed.

A light overall construction is employed to the point of fragility to foster a bright sound. The resulting instrument is much sharper and “more flamenco”.The flamenco guitarist will not play over or near the sound hole, but back near the bridge. The result is a tough steely sound that’s a crucial part of the flamenco style.

what is baroque guitar ?

baroque guitar
The Baroque guitar has five courses; the first is single and the other four double. The instrument utilizes a re-entrant tuning scheme, with the bottom course an octave higher than might be expected. Based on publications and manuscripts of the time, some historical players clearly preferred octave stringing on the lower one or two courses, while others just as clearly preferred unison for all the double courses. The choice of tuning scheme did not depend strictly on geography or chronology, and in fact in a few published collections the optimum tuning pattern may vary from one page to the next.
